The Owners

We are Keith and Linda Cooper, owners of a rustic rural event venue on our home property which is surrounded by rolling farm fields and gorgeous countryside in southern Minnesota. We have lived on the property since 1998, experiencing the proverbial “hobby farm” dream while raising our three children, some sheep, chickens, and cattle. After our children grew up and left home, our daughter asked to get married in our barn. We had a beautiful and memorable event holding her wedding here in August of 2011. many family members and friends continued to encourage us to consider making this a business to share the experience with others. Over the course of time and a series of events and circumstances, it became clear that this was the right direction to move toward. In September of 2013 we held our first wedding as Coop’s Event Barn.

We decided from the beginning that we wanted to do only one wedding per weekend. Having our daughter’s wedding here afforded us much time to plan and prepare and we wanted to give a similar experience to others. We feel so fortunate to be able to help couples make their dreams come true on a more relaxed time line. During 2018, our fifth year in business, we will exceed over 100 total weddings at Coop’s.

Our barn, granary, lounge, and restrooms sit on 10 acres just 20 minutes from both Rochester and Owatonna and just 90 minutes south of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul). We live onsite and are passionate about our business and pride ourselves on ensuring that the smallest of details are done right. We have repurposed materials whenever possible to create an ambiance and rural setting that provides a rustic and comfortable experience for you and your guests. We continue to enhance our buildings and property to make it accessible to all while maintaining its rustic character.

Coop’s is not just a business to us- This is our home and our property, and we are touched and honored when we can share it with couples for such an important milestone in their lives.

The Barn

Elegantly simple, your guests will feel warm and welcome in this lovely space.

The downstairs open space can accommodate your ceremony, reception, dinner, dance, meeting, or fun and games. The barn posts and ceiling are adorned with grapevine and white lights for rustic ambiance. The center ceiling is covered with more white lights. Wide open doors on both ends open to green gathering spaces for you and your guests. Bring in more of your own décor or leave it elegantly rustic and lighted for a simpler style.

An indoor staircase leads you up to a spacious open area lit with more white lights and a chandelier. Wood floors and high ceilings give a dramatic effect with large double repurposed doors opening to a deck overlooking the country side. The deck is finished with commercial high railings and a 6-foot-wide stairwell leading to green lawns below. The deck is a perfect place to take a break from the dance and enjoy unobstructed views of the countryside or the stars above. Inside the loft is a spiral staircase leading to a balcony has a large door, which when opened gives an outdoor view of the property to the north.  Open the additional windows and doors to let in light and breezes. Ceiling fans help cool the loft on warm summer days. Outside is a pergola covered patio with café lights and bistro table and chair seating.

The Granary

The historic granary has been completely renovated and honors our country restoration theme with well-worn galvanized steel and red barn siding finish off interior walls. Two large doors and four windows let in light and breezes. Upgrades include ceiling fan and air conditioning for warm days. This building has comfortable furnishings for wedding party preparation, relaxing, or hanging out with your party guests. Window coverings afford privacy while changing.

The Lounge

This 26 by 40-foot building is separated into three areas – storage, wedding party prep lounge, and restrooms. The lounge is a perfect space for wedding party prep and is air-conditioned with its own private bathroom. The interior is finished with rescued barn wood and metal, vintage lighting, white porcelain bathroom fixtures, large county farm sink, and casual seating. It has easily accommodated hair and make-up prep as well as dressing for your event.

There are restrooms, both a men’s and women’s, two of which are wheelchair accessible. Finished off with cedar and galvanized walls, they each have a primitive vanity, galvanized sink, vintage lighting, mirror, and ceiling fan.

The storage room provides ample space to store items during the event that aren’t in use, such as empty containers from your decorations, extra tables, and chairs, and other rental equipment.

Rustic Grain-bin Bar

A grain-bin has been repurposed as a large bar which sits on a large patio covered with café lighting and adorned with flowers.  This can serve as social gathering time or and outdoor dance.

The Grounds

Among the many features are a rustic privacy fence, prairie schooner wagon, walking path to native prairie grasses and flowers, pergola with grapevines, large patios with café lights, pastures, farm fields, trees, and a cozy fire pit with a cobble stone patio. We encourage our guests and photographers to explore the grounds for that perfect photo or just a relaxing walk through nature. We also provide ample parking in pastures.
