We used to keep our appointments in our outlook calendar which allows us to look back and be reminded of key events.  Keith placed an entry for Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. that says…Shauna Steenblock & fiancé.  That tells me that it was the ‘girl’ in this case (and that is pretty normal) who made the inquiry and set up the appointment.  It was a typical Minnesota summer evening when Shauna and her ‘fiance’ arrived.  I remember thinking, they are such a beautiful and striking couple.  Shauna is tall and blonde and has a bright white smile that both warms and intrigues you with every word.  Robert (yes the fiance does have a name) was a little more quiet and slightly reserved by comparison to Shauna’s radiant exuberance.  He is tall and has a build that let’s you know that he understands firsthand what hard work is all about.  Really a cowboy or country boy type with a depth of intelligence within.  He had thoughtful and more practical questions while Shauna was simply in awe as she examined every detail of the barn.   Shauna and Robert live in the country and have a barn so I could tell they both felt at home.  We visited comfortably about a lot of things.  At one point Shauna actually confessed that she hoped we didn’t clean the barn too much more…she wanted it to still smell like a barn,  While visiting with them and showing them around, the summer skies opened up and began to pelt a very heavy downpour so we sought out the granary where we could chat some more and wait it out. When I say it poured, I mean, it really poured!  It was raining so hard that just going to short distance to the granary got you soaked.  We sat in the granary visiting and getting to know them a little more. They were very easy to visit with but still had a ninety minute drive home.  Did I mention they’re from near Mason City Iowa?  It was still pouring when they left and I was a little worried and even checked the weather and saw they were driving straight into a bad storm.  I questioned if we should have let them leave.  I later told Keith that I was pretty sure that they wouldn’t book their wedding with us.  I mean it was a muddy mess with standing water everywhere in the driveway, around the buildings, in the fields around us when they left.  I felt sad, like we might not see or hear from them again.

Fast forward sixteen months, a few more visits, and several emails later. Shauna and Robert’s wedding is here at Coop’s this Saturday, October 24 and we are thrilled.  We can’t wait to see what this country couple does to transform our place into a rustic and vintage backdrop to celebrate their union with everyone close to them.  Visit their wedding website at be sure to look at their beautiful engagement photos by Lindsay Herbst Photography.
