This is the second in a series of blog posts about some of the amazing couples and families we have met since starting our business last summer. Katie Sobeck and Brian Grabau first came to check out the barn in early October of last year. Katie asked all the right questions about dates, details, and logistics and I could see the wheels spinning as she was taking in all this information. I knew that she was translating all of these details into what would become her perfect wedding day. Brian was very quiet and didn’t say much on the first visit, but on subsequent visits he’s opened up and it’s easy to see why these two are ‘hooked’ on each other.
Here’s Katie & Brian’s story- …..I met Brian on a beautiful fall night nearly four and a half years ago at one of my girlfriend’s houses. He was friends with her boyfriend and I immediately took a disliking to him. My first impression of him was that he was extremely sarcastic and arrogant, and I wanted nothing to do with him. Boy did he prove me wrong! He got my phone number about a month later from his friend and he started texting me daily “pick-up lines.” At first I thought he was super annoying, but after a few weeks I started to find it really sweet that he was trying so hard to talk to me. A few months later we made it official and have been together for 4 years now.
Brian proposed to me on September 21, 2013 on a fishing trip that we take with his family each year. He took me out fishing right at sunrise and after a few minutes of fishing he asked me to reel in and grab him another lure from his tackle box. I opened the tackle box and there at the bottom was my ring! I turned around to see Brian down on one knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I could not have dreamed of a more special and perfect proposal!
I heard of Coop’s Event Barn through my friend and photographer Cara Peterson from Cheeky Monkey Studio. She had been asked to do photography for Jesse and Lauren Jerle’s wedding (Keith and Linda’s daughter) but was unfortunately booked. When I told her that I was wanting a barn/country wedding she immediately recommended Coop’s Event Barn. The minute we drove up to the barn on our first visit on October 5th, I knew I wanted to have my wedding there. After getting out of the car and walking through the barn it was a done deal. The amount of character and beauty of the barn was overwhelming. We have a rustic and vintage theme and the barn seemed to fit our style perfectly! Brian and I quickly agreed that we had no reason to even look elsewhere, we had found our wedding venue!
Our wedding will take place on June 7, 2014. We are looking forward to a beautiful ceremony inside the barn, followed by a relaxing evening with a bonfire around the beautiful cobblestone fire pit, walks through the trails, yard games with our friends and family, and of course dancing the night away as Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Katie Grabau!
